Studies on the Major Characteristics of the Korean Water - dropwort (Oenanthe javanica DC) for Selectioning Superior Strains

Abstract
Experiments were carried out to investigate the morphological characteristics of intra-and inter-geographical origins, analysis of phenotypic and genotypic correlations and heritabilities in 80 local wild strains of water-dropwort (Oenanthe javanica DC). Local wild strains showed considerable variations in the major characters, especially in plant height. All local strains were classified as groups such as tall and short in plant height; erect and prostrate in plant type; red, reddish-brown and green in stem color; and early, intermediate and late in flowering time. The variations of major characters were great in the inter-regional origins, but a little in the intra-regional origins. The phenotypic correlation coefficient between plant height and other characters was significantly high, and the flowering time was negatively correlated with other traits. Generally, the genotypic correlation was relatively high, which was very similar to the phenotypic correlation in major characters. The heritability was high in plant height followed by top leaflet and runner length.
